Privacy policy for the Phos & Kin app by Small Light Studios
title: Phos & Kin Privacy Policy —
Effective date: September 26, 2026 · Last updated: October 29, 2026
Phos & Kin (“the app”) is made by Small Light Studios (“we”, “us”). This policy explains how the app handles your information. The short version: we don’t collect any. The only exception is an ad you choose to watch, which Google shows.
We collect nothing. The app:
Anything you add or change is saved only on your device, in the app’s private storage:
We cannot see this data. Your device’s own backup (Google or iCloud) may include it, so it can come back if you reinstall the app or move to a new phone; Apple and Google handle those backups under their own privacy policies. To remove it for good, clear the app’s storage in your device settings, or uninstall the app with backup turned off.
English quotes and card messages are built into the app. When you choose another language, the app downloads that language’s quotes once from GitHub Pages (rufus-sam.github.io) and then works offline. The app sends nothing about you with that request. Like any website, GitHub receives your device’s IP address in order to deliver the file; see GitHub’s Privacy Statement. The downloaded quotes are stored only on your device.
Festival card packs open and close on their real dates. When you open the app (at most every 15 minutes), it makes one small request to the same GitHub Pages site (rufus-sam.github.io) and reads only the current date from the server’s response, so your phone’s clock never affects which packs are available. It sends nothing about you and downloads no content; as with any website, GitHub receives your device’s IP address. If you’re offline, nothing changes until the next time you connect.
Premium festival packs are sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment, and we never see your card, UPI or bank details. The app asks Google Play which packs your Google account has bought, so they unlock on your phone and are restored on a new one. We don’t receive your name or email. Google handles purchases under the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Play Terms of Service.
If you tap Add a voice note on a card, the app asks for permission to use the microphone, only then. If you tap Add a photo, you pick one with your device’s photo picker, so the app never sees the rest of your gallery. The voice note and photo are kept only on your device, in temporary storage, and go only where you share the card. The app never uploads them.
When you open the app, it asks Google Play whether a newer version is available, and if so offers to update. After you’ve used the app for a while, it may show Google Play’s rating prompt, at most once every few months. Both are handled entirely by Google Play under the Google Privacy Policy; the app sends nothing about you to us.
On a festival pack’s page you can choose to watch a short ad to try the pack for 5 minutes. No ad ever plays unless you tap that button, and the app has no banners or pop-up ads.
The ad is shown by Google AdMob. When you watch one, Google’s ad service receives information from your device such as your device’s advertising ID, IP address and general device details, to show the ad, measure it and prevent fraud, and it may use this to personalise ads where the law and your choices allow. If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Google asks for your consent first; you can change your choice any time in Settings → Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings. Google handles this under the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from apps that use its services. We receive no information about you from Google’s ads.
If you turn on reminders, the app asks for permission to send notifications. They are local notifications: your device schedules and shows them. No server is involved, and nothing is sent anywhere. You can turn them off in the app’s Settings or in your device settings at any time.
When you tap Share, the app opens your device’s standard share sheet with the quote or card you picked. The content goes only to the app or person you choose, and only when you tap Share. After that, that app’s privacy policy applies.
The app doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
